The “Running Ahrens” Cross Country Camp is worth a closer look if you are a high school athlete looking for a great week of training, learning, and fun, or if you are a parent who wants to know that their athlete will be in good hands. Coach Ahrens is continuing a camp that actually started 25 years ago. He is the new director and the camp is on a new site, but the tradition of teaching, training, and even entertaining cross country runners will continue. Coach Ahrens has been part of the camp for nearly a decade, and he is joined by other coaches with years of experience—and success. I will admit, I am biased knowing the coaches who work the camp, but I have seen the camp grow, I have taken my own athletes, and I have seen camp alums go on to great things. Most recently, the camp included the 2017 boys’ PIAA champion (AA) from Jersey Shore, and “A” girls’ runner-up from Warrior Run—great job Isaac and Lauren!—as well as the girls’ AA team champions from Danville. However, you don’t have to be state-caliber to benefit from the camp. There is something for everyone, from that “clueless” new runner to the state champ. As a coach, a parent, and a teacher, I encourage you to check out the camp. Coaches—send the whole team!
