The Cal U Cross Country Camp is an educational camp which is extremely valuable to all distance athletes from the 800m to the 5000m.  Campers learn about nutrition, sports psychology, lifestyle habits, injury prevention, sports science, and much more! Campers may engage in hill training, interval and running workouts, and aqua jogging. In addition, each camper will be evaluated by our strength and conditioning staff and given a mobility and strengthening program.

Campers will be taught Good Form Running, and this year only, legendary US Olympian and miler, ALAN WEBB, will be attending camp and speaking to the campers.

Campers also get a 35% discount from Elite Runners and Walkers on ANY pair of in-stock shoes.

The total cost for the camp, which includes instruction, meals, lodging and camp t-shirt is $460 per overnight camper and $375 per commuter camper.  Teams with five or more campers will receive a $25 discount per camper.

Former Camp instructors and counselors have included:

I loved this camp. The coach is great and there is a wide variety of ability levels. The counselors are super nice and there was a ratio of 6:1. Small community and good trails. Not for the most competitive runners but definitely if you need a mental boost or tips

I went to the CalU XC Camp in 2011 (going into my JR XC season) and had a really great time there. The year I went there was about four high school teams that came and many individuals, as I went with a teammate of mine. The campus is small and nobody ever had trouble getting lost when going to the great lectures (on diet, training, and mindset) or the dining hall. The things I liked most about the camp is that you can individualize the amount you run each day for the specific runs, as everyone is on a different level and all running is done on soft surfaces (grass, gravel, track). The runners for CalU are great counselors and it was a great time running with them on their runs and getting to know them. Knowledge wise, the biggest thing I took from the camp was injury prevention, as you are analyzed for weaknesses and taught core/stability exercises (just like the guys of Oregon Project & Oregon Track Club). Olympians Grant Robinson and Elva Dryer talked to us and told us stories of their experiences during the middle of the week. Also, the most cherishing memory I have from camp was running a 7 miler with Grant Robinson and some of the guys of the CalU XC team. I believe without some of the injury prevention tips and the realities that Coach Dan Caulfield brings up, I wouldn't have had such success as State medals or being a Footlocker Finalist.

The overall experience of the cross country camp at Cal U was great! I was a camper at this camp several years ago and have been a counselor at it a couple times now, and every year it is a time to remember. We have had so many big time speakers come and speak to the campers about nutrition, training, lifestyle, personal experiences, etc. over the years; and all who have spoken really seem to make an impact on those who are lucky enough to listen to them. Over the years we have had Joe Newton, Joe Vigil, Amy Rudolph, and Chris Solinsky come and speak, just to name a few. The campers are able to stay in the college dorms during their camp week, which are fully furnished and have air conditioning (which is a great feature for those hot summer days). The week spent at camp week is great in that you are able to learn so much more about distance running and what it takes to do the best you can at this sport, but also in that you can meet new people who have the same passion for the sport as you. It is definitely a time well spent.
